Feature and Short Films

I have been making films since 2004 and written, directed and edited a number of short films including NASA and the Space Pen that screen at a number of high profile film festivals.

In 2010 we started a self funded feature film that was initially planned to be a 4 week shoot. Little did we know that we would take 4 years of filming, on and off to complete, but it was all a happy ending, we won the Best Direct Award at Southhampton International Film Festival, were selected for the Berlin Independent Festival and sold the film to London Live TV for a Saturday night primetime screening slot.

The Warehouse Feature Film

After 5 years of production and post production we finally finished our self funded feature back in 2014. We then went on to screen at two international festivals, Berlin Independent and Southampton International, where we won Best Director with my co-director Andrew McGeary.

We also sold the film to London Live TV where it was pick as Film of the day in The Evening Standard for its Saturday Night screening.

It’s now available on Video on Demand if you want to watch it..

Future Projects

I am currently working on a new feature script, ‘The Ghost Map’, set in Soho both present day and during the cholera epidemic of 1854, highlighting the ground breaking work of Dr John Snow.

I’m also working on an animated online series called ‘Making Plans’ all about Nigel after he has turned 50.

Opposite is the original poster design but I changed it later during the editing stage of production when the film turned out to be less of a horror and more of a thriller.

Short Films

Since completing the Panico Film course back in 2002 I have made over 10 short films with help from many friends made on the course. This was a great grounding in all aspects of feature production and we were trained by many top filmmakers including Julian Doyle (IMDB) who worked on the Monty Python films and went on to work with Terry Gilliam, editing Brazil.

Here’s a selection of my short films all made with limited funds and usually on a very quick turnover.

NASA & The Space Pen

At the height of the 1960s space race, two young brothers in rapture by space travel rush to become the first to invent a pen that works in zero gravity, the coveted space pen. The film is a family friendly nostalgia trip to Swindon in the late 60’s.

Written and Directed by Matt Taylor

The film has screened at number of international film festivals including Austin, St Louis, Omaha and the LA and New Orleans International Children’s Film Festivals 2010.

CheckMate

Two incompetent burglars take a break too far in this short comedy based on a chapter from Danny King’s (IMDB) novel The Burglar Diaries. Danny went on to turn the book into a sitcom series for BBC 3 called Thieves like US. He has also written a number of books in the ‘Diaries’ series. This short was made for the £50 quid film Challenge.

Adapted (from Danny Kings Book The Burglar Dairies)

Takeout

More incompetent burglars now against incompetent cops in this made for 50 quid one weekend shoot.

Trumpets and accordions, they’re just prototypes. When Mr Russel’s mysterious music box finds it way into a troubled record labels office it seems the perfect solution to their problems, but all is not what it seems.

It’s the Little Things in Life

Peter is about to marry the perfect girl. She’s a great cook, great in bed, loves football and gets the beers in. So when he’s propositioned by his, soon to be, mother-in-law his whole future rests on one seemingly small thing.

A comic cautionary tale of how a seemingly small decision could have a larger impact on your future happiness.
